Lakes district

First stop was Keswick. After a lovely dinner cooked by Paul we went for an evening stroll down by the stream and through the town centre. The back drop provided by the mountains was very picturesque. And we saw about 8 – 10 lambs having a field day, running around kicking their little legs, you can see the video of the thrilling action on our video page. To top off our walk we had a delicious gelato! Mmhmmm.
We woke up to pouring rain so we slept in a bit longer and cruised along getting ready. We thought we would go check out Wordsworth House in Cockermouth which was the childhood home of the poet William Wordsworth in around the 18th century. This was a lovely little house and in the kitchen they had baked goodies that would have been eaten in the 18th century. In the dining room one of the maids read some of the poetry written by William and gave us more insight into his life.
Driving on, we went on one of the walks around the Buttermere area. The Lakes District is very beautiful and there are so many walks to do. After the walk and feeling rather peckish, we thought we would go out for a nice meal at our next stop, Ambleside, which is such a cute little town. We had a lovely meal and great service at the Glasshouse and feeling rather merry headed back to our little van.
Our last stop in the Lakes District was Hill Top, a time capsule of Beatrix Potter’s life. When Beatrix passed away in 1943 she left a number of her houses to the national trust to look after. The house is close to how it would have been when Beatrix stayed there and is full of her favourite things. Every room contains a reference to a picture in a ‘tale’. Very cool to see the house and where some of her inspiration came from.

  1. Irene will just love these photos when she gets home. She always says it is one of the most beautiful places she has ever seen. She is rapt in the lake district, and has just about all of Beatrix Potter's books.
