Stratford-upon-Avon

Into Stratford we arrive and it is very busy, one I suppose is because it’s a Saturday and two it’s the long weekend. Again it is getting late in the day to visit attractions, but we manage to make it in time to visit Shakespeare’s birthplace and another bonus the tickets that you buy last for a whole year. The tickets cost £14.95 each and this also gets you into Nash’s House and New Place, Halls Croft and Shakespeare’s grave. It is not too bad a price considering what you can see, and makes it worthwhile with the tickets lasting a year (as you could pass them onto a friend). After visiting the birthplace and leaving the rest for tomorrow, we head to make some dinner (spaghetti bolognese is on the menu) and park up for the night. Catch you tomorrow.
Last night we said to each other that we would get up early and head into town to see the rest of the Shakespeare’s exhibition, but when we woke up it was so cold we decided to stay warm and go back to sleep. By the time we got into town it was around 10.30am and we headed straight for Nash’s House and New Place. This is where Shakespeare’s granddaughter lived and the site of Shakespeare’s last home where he died in 1616.
The next place was Hall’s croft where Shakespeare’s eldest daughter lived with her husband Dr John Hall and their daughter. The places we visited were so interesting and amazing that they are still standing (obviously with a little bit of help) and it is amazing what the archaeologists can ascertain from the pieces of ornament, pottery etc that they excavate around the houses.
Our last stop was Shakespeare’s grave which is located in the Holy Trinity Church.
As we had a long drive a head of us, we wandered back through the Sunday markets towards home in order to hit the road again.
