Botallack Mine

We became members of the National Trust as there are quite a few attractions run by them, one of which was the Bucklands Abbey and today we visited another one, the Botallack Mine. As you can see the day clouded over after our lovely morning at the beach but we got out and about to enjoy the rest of the day. The Mine is situated in the St Just Mining district, one of the most ancient hard-rock tin and copper mining areas in Cornwall. The mine was used in the 19th century and they tried to re-open it again in the 20th century but failed.

You walk around the site which takes about 45 minutes and has lovely views of the coastline. It does make you think of how hard it must have been for the workers back in the day!

Crowns engine houses - one was built to pump water from the mine and the other was to provide winding power for a shaft
